7/4/24 Water Main Break

7/6/24: CITY OF GIBBON'S DRINKING WATER IS SAFE FOR CONSUMPTION

The City of Gibbon's water supply has been tested and is safe for consumption.

What should I do now?

  • You can stop boiling your water and flushing your plumbing system.
  • Run each cold-water faucet for 5 minutes or until the water is noticeable colder. You may then use your tap water as usual.

For more information about flushing, visit page 3 of the Community Drinking Water Advisory Guidance.

What happened?

Consumers were notified on 7/4/24 of loss of water pressure due to a broken water main and issued a Boil Water Advisory. We are pleased to report the issue has been corrected and the Drinking Water Advisory has ended. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your patience.

Will there be any health effects?

The incident is resolved. However, if you experience unusual symptoms and they persist, it is recommended you seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking water.

7/4/24 CITY OF GIBBON WATER MAIN BREAK

What happened?
On 07/04/2024, we experienced a loss of pressure in our water system due to a water main break during a storm, which resulted in loss of water in the water tower. A loss of water pressure means that contamination could have entered our drinking water distribution system.

What should I do?
Do not drink, brush teeth, or cook with tap water without boiling it first. Or use a safe alternative such as bottled water.

  • Bring all water to a rolling boil for one (1) minute.
  • Let water cool before drinking.
  • Use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice.
  • Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in water.
After the system has restored pressure and lifted the advisory, it’s recommended consumers flush their building plumbing systems.
